The 2026 RAV4 is a ground-up sixth-generation redesign, and the biggest change is under the hood: it is the first RAV4 sold exclusively as a hybrid. Here’s what’s new this year:
Toyota pairs a 2.5L four-cylinder with its latest hybrid system. The standard Hybrid now offers front-wheel drive for the first time (226 hp) or available all-wheel drive (236 hp). Step up to the Plug-in Hybrid for 324 net combined horsepower, standard AWD, and a 22.7-kWh battery good for an EPA-estimated all-electric range of up to 54 miles — enough for many local drivers to cover a daily round trip on electricity alone.

The 2026 RAV4 is organized into three design directions — Core (LE, XLE Premium, Limited), Rugged (Woodland), and Sport (SE, XSE, and the new GR Sport). The SE, XSE, and Woodland are each offered as either a Hybrid or a Plug-in Hybrid; the GR Sport comes exclusively as the high-output PHEV. AWD is standard on the XSE, Woodland, and every Plug-in Hybrid, while the LE, SE, and XLE Premium come standard with front-wheel drive and offer AWD as an option. Every 2026 RAV4 comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, the newest version of Toyota’s driver-assist suite, built on the new Arene software platform. Standard features include Pre-Collision System with pedestrian detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Proactive Driving Assist, and Road Sign Assist. These systems are driver aids and do not replace safe, attentive driving.
Inside, the RAV4 offers 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, expanding to about 70 cubic feet with the 60/40 seats folded, plus an available 8-way power driver’s seat and the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia system. Every new RAV4 also includes ToyotaCare, covering factory-scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 25,000 miles.
Only the PHEV. The standard Hybrid never needs to be plugged in — it recharges through the engine and regenerative braking. Plug-in Hybrid owners get the most from the electric range by charging on a 240V Level 2 charger.
Core trims (LE, XLE Premium, Limited) lean toward refined, everyday driving. The Rugged Woodland grade adds all-terrain tires, roof rails, and a tow-hitch receiver for light off-pavement use.
